The very first shots we see in Sherlock Series One show John’s distressing dream about his time in Afghanistan overlaid with bokeh lighting effects.

The battlefield footage was filmed in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2007 and became part of a BBC Documentary called Inside Afghanistan. The documentary was filmed and produced by Ben Anderson and is available to watch on Youtube here.
