According to the art book, Jude Law’s (I believe “velvety” was the word used) voice ended up having a lot of influence on the final version of Pitch’s character; they figured that he was going to be a dark, dimensional, manipulative sort, but the casual affability and dry wit was folded in later. 

Thank goodness for that.
